20th-22nd March

Hi Guys,

well it’s been a funny old week up to now, with sunny and very mild one minute then heavy rain and snow the next. Wish it would makes its mind up and to top it off the Northern Lights were very active on Tuesday night in to Wednesday but weather forecast wasn’t brilliant unless you were far north.  Anyways here are the latest sightings for the area.

22nd March Wombwell Ings

Highlight was the Glaucous Gull that flew in at 7.30 am and gave good views until lunchtime to a steady stream of birdwatchers. It was originally picked up by PWK (don’t know his full name ) on Broomhill Flash at 7.20am, where it stayed for five minutes before flying over to the Ings. Photo Alan Whitehouse and Ron Marshall.

Day’s Highlight
Just got back to Old Moor Rspb entrance gates when K. Follows ( Donny Keith ) came on the radio telling us a  Glaucous Gull was on Broomhill Flash.  A quick dash round meant Seev and I were able to see the second winter bird before it disappeared west over the old tip at 1.15pm.. The Glaucous Gull landed close to the nearest tern raft and gave very good views for about 10 minutes before flying off. V. Wheeler was able to take record shots, one of which can be seen on today’s Twitter feed (access button at side of blog).
