8th-10th Feb

Hi everyone,

the Waxwings at Birdwell have still been around swelling to around 130 birds with also another 60 not too far away at Goldthorpe still present today 10th Feb. Here are some updates for sightings from Alan Whitehouse via BBSG.

10th February Wombwell Ings

Present were 31 Canada Geese, 2 Shelduck, 160+ Wigeon, 21 Gadwall, 12 Shoveler, 11 Teal, 8 Mallard, 3 Tufted Duck, 1 Pochard, 1 Little Egret, 12 Coot, 10 Moorhen, 211 Golden Plover, 61 Lapwing, 131 BH Gull, 3 Common Gull, 3 Skylark, 2 Mistle Thrush, 15 Linnet, 1 Yellowhammer and 3 Reed Bunting. A Peregrine was over at 10.50am.

Broomhill Flash

Highlight was a male Common Scoter. Also noted were 2 Mute Swan, 76 Canada Geese, 65 Shoveler, 54 Wigeon, 25 Teal, 16 Pochard, 12 Gadwall, 10 Tufted Duck, 4 Mallard, 3 Cormorant, 44 Coot, 3 Moorhen, 48 Lapwing,  78 BH Gull and 11 Common Gull.

Bolton Ings

On the open water were 2 Mute Swan, 1 Greylag, 15 Gadwall, 6 Shoveler, 6 Tufted Duck, 5 Mallard, 3 Pochard, 2 Goldeneye, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Little Grebe, 1 Cormorant, 214 Coot and 3 BH Gull. Also present were 49 Canada Geese, 1 Song Thrush and 2 Willow Tit.

 

9th February Wombwell Ings

Present were 2 Mute Swan, 18 Canada Geese, 3 Shelduck, c90 Wigeon, 24 Gadwall, 11 Shoveler, 6 Teal, 5 Mallard, 3 Goosander 2 Tufted Duck, 1 Pochard, 1 Grey Heron, 11 Moorhen, 10 Coot, 1 Kestrel, 226 Golden Plover, 61 Lapwing, 59 BH Gull, 1 Common Gull, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Stonechat, 2 Redwing, 2 Reed Bunting and 2 Linnet.

Noted were 2 Mute Swan, 57 Wigeon, 51 Shoveler, 19 Gadwall, 18 Pochard, 13 Tufted Duck, 6 Teal, 2 Mallard, 6 Cormorant, 41 Coot, 5 Moorhen, 1 Buzzard, 42 Lapwing, 48 BH Gull and 1 LBB Gull.

Bolton Ings

On the open water were 2 Mute Swan, 19 Tufted Duck, 10 Gadwall, 9 Shoveler, 7 Goldeneye, 5 Mallard, 3 Pochard, 1 Teal, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 6+ Cormorant, 208 Coot, 1 Moorhen and 3 Common Gull. Also present were 1 Grey Heron, 1 Kestrel, 2 Green Woodpecker, 1 Song Thrush and 2 Willow Tit.

 

8th February Wombwell Ings

Present were 4 Mute Swan, 54 Canada Geese, 6 Shelduck, c90 Wigeon, 30 Teal, 21 Gadwall, 13 Mallard, 6 Tufted Duck, 6 Shoveler, 3 Goosander, 1 Little Egret, 11 Coot, 8 Moorhen, c250 skittish Golden Plover, 121 Lapwing, 152 BH Gull, 1 Common Gull, 1 Song Thrush, 1 Mistle Thrush, 3 Skylark, 1 Pied Wagtail and 21 Linnet.

Noted were 2 Mute Swan, 65 Shoveler, 52 Wigeon, 26 Teal, 23 Gadwall, 13 Pochard, 10 Tufted Duck, 1 Little Grebe,  6 Cormorant, 1 Kestrel, 1 Buzzard, 115 Lapwing, 31 BH Gull and 1 Common Gull

Bolton Ings

On the open water were 2 Mute Swans, 18 Tufted Duck, 16 Gadwall, 11 Mallard, 7 Goldeneye, 4 Shoveler, 2 Pochard, 2 Goosander, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 181 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 12 BH Gull and 11 Common Gull,. Also present were 23 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Song Thrush, 3 Bullfinch and 2 Willow Tit.
