Broomhill Birder

Hi All,

another wet start to the day but out and about with good reason.

Got a phonecall this morning about 7.20am and reports of a Rednecked Phalarope on the mere on Oldmoor so shot straight there and just as I got to the roundabout it came on the radio as a Grey Phalarope but never the less good views from the Family hide.

From there back to Broomhill where there were on the back island or just behind

4 Snipe, 3 Little Ringed Plover, 1 Oyster Catcher and 3 Dunlin.

Also 12 Mallard, 11 Tufted Duck with two broods of 7 and 5, 2 Little Grebe.

House Martin 30+, Swallow 30+ and Swift 20+.

Kestrel 4 and 2 Redlegged Partidge.

Wombwell Ings

At about 10am John and myself had a walk round Wombwell Ings but still raining pretty heavy but we had 4 Redshank, 1 Greenshank, and 2 Green sandpiper.

Mute Swan 2 + a brood of 5 signets, Tufted Duck 12, Great Crested Grebe 1, Gadwall 2, Greylag 17 and Canada Goose 40.

Also 1 Water Rail which was calling from the pond next to the “Travelors Camp” and a single White Throat and 2 Kingfishers on the way off.
