Hi everyone,

3 updates for you to view and hopefully the wind and rain will have disappeared for tomorrow when we go off to Filey/Scarbrough for a days birding on the coast.

27th January Wombwell Ings

Just packing up to leave at 9.50am, when I heard a distinctive call. A scan of the of the near edge of the main pool revealed a Ringed Plover ( An early bird for the year but B.Emerson had recorded one at Edderthorpe 10 minutes earlier on Twitter ). Also present were 2 Mute Swan, 231 Canada Geese, 3 Greylag, 125 Wigeon, 21 Teal, 13 Mallard,  5m+4f Goosander, 7 Shoveler, 4 Tufted Duck, 2m+1f Pochard, 3 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 11 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel, 214 Golden Plover, 126 Lapwing, 33 BH Gull, 1 Common Gull and 1 Kingfisher.
Bolton Ings

On the open water were 7 Mute Swan, 24 Mallard, 23 Tufted Duck, 19 Shoveler, 9m+3f Pochard, 3m+5f Goldeneye, 7 Teal, 2 Gadwall, 1f Goosander, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Little Grebe, 125 Coot, 68 BH Gull, 29 Common Gull and 7 Herring Gull. Also noted were 23 Canada Geese, 1 Greylag, 2 Cormorant, 4 Moorhen,1 Lapwing, 1 Green Woodpecker and 1 Jay.

26th January Wombwell Ings

Present were 2 Mute Swan, 231 Canada Geese, 2 Greylag, 98 Wigeon, 13 Teal, 9 Shoveler, 9 Mallard, 6 Tufted Duck, 4m+1f Pochard, 2m+2f Goosander, 2 Cormorant, 4 Little Egret, 2 Grey Heron, 4 Coot, 1 Moorhen, 188 Golden Plover, 147 Lapwing, 49 BH Gull, 3 Common Gull and 2 Mistle Thrush.

An overcast day brightened by the sight a pair of  brightly coloured Lesser Redpoll.

Bolton Ings

On the eastern pool were 2 Mute Swan, 14 Tufted Duck, 5m+3f Goosander, 3m+5f Goldeneye, 4 Mallard, 3m Pochard, 2 Teal, 1 Shoveler, 1f Wigeon, 3 Little Grebe, 1 Cormorant, 154 Coot, 121 BH Gull, 14 Common Gull and 2 Herring Gull. Also present were 13 Canada Geese, 10 Greylag over, 2 Grey Heron, 2 Moorhen, 1 Lapwing, 1 Green Woodpecker and 1 Jay.

 

25th January Wombwell Ings

The back field was productive with a Buzzard ( dark coloured with a a white chest bar ) hunting for worms/ beetles, 3 Little Egret in the corner near the gypsy camp and 6 Skylark( 2+ in song flight). On the Ings were 2 Mute Swan, 117 Canada Geese, 4 Greylag, 198 Wigeon, 27 Teal,14 Shoveler, 13 Mallard, 4 Tufted Duck, 2m+2f Goosander, 2m+1f Pochard, 2 Cormorant, 4 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 232 Golden Plover, 153 Lapwing, 38 BH Gull,1 Common Gull and 1 Kingfisher.
Bolton Ings

On the eastern pool were 1 Mute Swan, 13m+10f Pochard, 22 Tufted Duck, 6m+4f Goosander, 1m+2f Goldeneye, 2 Mallard, 2 Gadwall, 1 Shoveler, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Little Grebe, 138 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 68 BH Gull, 54 Common Gull and 4 Herring Gull. Also present were 17 Canada Geese, 4 Greylag, 4 Cormorant, 3 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret flying east, 100+ Lapwing over, 1 female Sparrowhawk, 1 LBB Gull over,1 Greater Spotted Woodpecker, 1 calling Green Woodpecker, 3 Bullfinch and 1 Reed Bunting.

 

Broomhill Flash

Late afternoon 24 Pink Footed Goose landed on the back farmers field.
